Contributing Your Library’s Records to reQuest
A service of the Connecticut State Library and your local library in partnership with the Department of Higher Education.

The reQuest statewide library catalog contains approximately 4.6 million records and 21 million holdings from more than 400 public, academic, school and special libraries in Connecticut. The Connecticut Union List of Serials (CULS), also searchable through reQuest, contains approximately 70 thousand records and 190 thousand holdings.

Whether you have never contributed your records to reQuest or have not done so in awhile, it is not too late to start. The basic steps are:

  1. Extract your bibliographic records and holdings from your local system (full extracts preferred on a monthly basis). Instructions are below for select vendors. They are provided in Portable Document Format (PDF) and require Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing. If you can not access them, please contact Gail Hurley :

    1. Athena (file in .pdf – 12kb)
    2. Follett – Circ. Plus/Catalog Plus (file in .pdf – 81kb)
    3. Follett – Destiny (file in .pdf – 304kb)
    4. Horizon (file in .pdf – 6kb)
    5. Innovative Interfaces (III) (file in .pdf – 8kb)
    6. Softlink (file in .pdf - 10kb)
    7. TLC-Library Solution (file in .pdf - 8kb)
    8. Voyager (file in .pdf – 89kb)
    9. Winnebago (file in .pdf – 21kb)

Note: Libraries using Auto-Graphics’ Verso system (asp product) can have their records automatically extracted each month and loaded into reQuest.

Note: If you do not have an automated system, but wish to have your library records online, you may consider joining reQuest to use the cataloging options available to add your holdings to reQuest.

Note: Please contact Gail Hurley for information about contributing serials holdings to the Connecticut Union List of Serials.
  2. Fill out a local system profile form online or complete the printed local system profile form and fax it to Gail Hurley at the iCONN office at 860-704-2229. (In either case, Gail can help you fill out the form).

  3. Send records electronically using FTP or mail records on CD/disk to our vendor, Auto-Graphics.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) instructions, click here.

To mail records, please send them to: Attn: Amalia Gonzalez, Auto-Graphics, Inc.
3201 Temple Ave., Pomona, CA 91768-3200.

If you are concerned with the quality of the records you are submitting to reQuest, you may check to see if they were included in reQuest or rejected by reQuest during the loading process. Auto-Graphics has set up monthly folders where you can check to see if records were too brief or did not include your library’s holdings. Click here to see how to check your records.

Monthly input statistics are available for each library to check the number of records submitted and the frequency of the submissions. A listing of libraries with holdings in reQuest is also available along with the reQuest updating schedule.

For more detailed information about contributing records, record quality and standards, see the Contributing Your Records document.
