The State Library and the Department of Higher Education are seeking
applications to fill two positions on the Connecticut Digital Library
Advisory Board. Terms will begin on October 7, 2009. The first meeting
will be on October 7, 2009.
The Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board (CDLAB) meets at the Middletown Library
Service Center on the first Wednesday
of every other month (February, April, June, August, October and December) from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm and members
are expected to attend all meetings and actively participate in special projects and
committees. Terms are two-years. No individual may serve more than two consecutive terms.
The CDLAB was established in November of 2001 by the State Library Board and the
Board of Governors for Higher Education as an integral part of their
responsibility to plan and develop the Connecticut Digital Library under the
provisions of Connecticut General Statutes 4d-82.
The Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board shall advise the State Library
Board and the Board of Governors for Higher Education on policy, needs
assessment and content selection for the Connecticut Digital Library, currently
known as iCONN - Connecticut's Re-search Engine.
As stated in the Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board Bylaws: The primary
criteria for board membership are individual expertise and commitment to the
purpose of the Connecticut Digital Library. Connecticut Digital Library
Advisory Board members should be broadly representative of the library,
educational, and business communities of Connecticut. Geographical and type of
library representation are important but secondary considerations when
considering criteria for Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board membership.
The by-laws call for:

One representative from the Commission for Educational Technology;

One representative from the State Department of Education;
-
One representative from the business community, or a library user;
-
One parent of a student in a Connecticut K-12 school;
-
One student in a Connecticut K-12 school or college;
-
One Teacher in a Connecticut school or college;
-
Seven professional librarians with at least two representatives from each
audience served: school, public and academic libraries;
-
The State Librarian and the Commissioner of Higher Education, or their
designees, shall serve as ex-officio members of the Board.
Applications are now being sought for:

Anyone wishing to serve on the CDLAB must apply on their own behalf. Additional letters of support may be sent from those who know the applicant. The Nominations Committee will review all applications. The CDLA Board will vote
on the Committee’s recommended nominees at their October
