Application To Serve on the
Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board
A service of the Connecticut State Library and your local library in partnership with the Department of Higher Education.

The State Library and the Department of Higher Education are seeking applications to fill four positions on the Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board. Terms will begin on January 1, 2011. The first meeting will be on February 2, 2011.

The Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board (CDLAB) meets at the Middletown Library Service Center on the first Wednesday of every other month (February, April, June, August, October and December) from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm and members are expected to attend all meetings and actively participate in special projects and committees. Terms are two-years. No individual may serve more than two consecutive terms.

The CDLAB was established in November of 2001 by the State Library Board and the Board of Governors for Higher Education as an integral part of their responsibility to plan and develop the Connecticut Digital Library under the provisions of Connecticut General Statutes 4d-82.

The Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board shall advise the State Library Board and the Board of Governors for Higher Education on policy, needs assessment and content selection for the Connecticut Digital Library, currently known as iCONN - Connecticut's Re-search Engine.

As stated in the Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board Bylaws: The primary criteria for board membership are individual expertise and commitment to the purpose of the Connecticut Digital Library. Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board members should be broadly representative of the library, educational, and business communities of Connecticut. Geographical and type of library representation are important but secondary considerations when considering criteria for Connecticut Digital Library Advisory Board membership.

The by-laws call for:

  1. One representative from the Commission for Educational Technology;
  2. One representative from the State Department of Education;
  3. One representative from the business community, or a library user;
  4. One parent of a student in a Connecticut K-12 school;
  5. One student in a Connecticut K-12 school or college;
  6. One Teacher in a Connecticut school or college;
  7. Seven professional librarians with at least two representatives from each audience served: school, public and academic libraries;
  8. The State Librarian and the Commissioner of Higher Education, or their designees, shall serve as ex-officio members of the Board.

Applications are now being sought for:

  • 1 Parent of K-12 Student
  • 1 Public Librarian
  • 1 Student (K-12 or College)
  • 1 Teacher (K-12 or College)

Anyone wishing to serve on the CDLAB must apply on their own behalf. Additional letters of support may be sent from those who know the applicant. The Nominations Committee will review all applications. The CDLA Board will vote on the Committee's recommended nominees at their December meeting. If you have any questions concerning the CDLA Board, please call Sharon Brettschneider (Connecticut State Library) at 860/757-6665. You will find minutes of past meetings, bylaws, and a directory of current Board members at http://www.iconn.org/DigitalLibraryAdvisoryBoard.aspx.
