If you're a supporter of Connecticut libraries, you know that our libraries are always in need of extra funds. The Love Your Library days event was modeled on a similar statewide libary book fair held in New Jersey this September. Proceeds from the event will go to support a core set of library resources known as iCONN - the Connecticut Digital Library. iCONN provides a set of online databases and a statewide library catalog for all public, school, and academic libraries in the state. It is also available to every Connecticut resident via the web 24x7. Already heavily used - with over 30 million searches conducted since iCONN's inception in 2001 - iCONN hopes to offer libraries more resources with the additional funding from Love Your Library days. In addition to funding the statewide project, the Love Your Library event will give libraries local to Barnes & Noble stores a chance to create "wishlists" from which holiday shoppers can purchase items to add to the libraries' collections (and a percentage of sales of wishlist items will go to the statewide project, as well).
Vouchers for use on the day of the event (all purchases used to support Connecticut libraries must be accompanied by Love Your Library vouchers) are available here in electronic form. You can print them (they will be accepted in either color or black and white). If you're part of a friends' group, please consider adding the voucher to your newsletter. Other ideas for friends' groups: use press releases in your newsletter; go to the "Publicizing..." page to download/save logos of participating organizations for graphics to accompany articles. Does your friends' group have a website? Great! Consider adding a news item about Love Your Library days. Incorporate December 2nd and 3rd into your online event calendar.
